Rightward slide in the National Council: new majorities in the large chamber

The Federal Statistical Office has corrected the voter percentages, but the distribution of seats has not changed.
What has changed in the National Council as a result of the elections?
We have come up with the following thoughts:

  • Corrected FSO figures from 25.10.2023: The FDP (14.3 %) is ahead of the center (14.1 %)
  • There was a shift to the right in the National Council, there should be no shift to the right in the Council of States (in some cantons there are 2nd ballots)
  • The center is slightly strengthened.
It can therefore play an even stronger role in tipping the scales.
It can forge alliances with the right and the left.
  • The GLP is severely weakened by the number of seats
  • The left axis has been weakened overall, there has been a shift from the Greens to the SP
  • The more urban the electorate, the more left-wing it votes

Conclusion

  • The strength of the factions is shown in the contribution image (the factions have not yet been definitively formed, there may be small shifts)
  • The centre-right and also the left-wing Greens need the center or the GLP for a majority
  • The party colors are and remain relative in the healthcare sector.
